Good news. My director has approved that I can do the study at work. I'm really wondering about my questions for interviews. It seems the ones that come to mind are too pointed, and not open-ended enough. I certainly don't want questions in which they could give Yes/No answers and get no real information or substance.
It kind of hit me today that my entire environment during the day is like my "lab" for observations. I need to keep my notebook with me at all times (or at least have it very handy). After having a conversation with one of my employees, I struggled to remember all that was said because she was speaking about how communication changed dramatically when they moved from a small building to the larger one. Interesting.
I welcome your suggestions on potential questions. Look at it from your standpoint as an employee... what do you want/need to know? from whom? by what method? What question can I ask that may prompt them to discuss how it affects their performance... i.e. when I'm asked to change how I do my job, it makes me insecure for a while and not as fast, happy, productive, effective, etc.
